2009 Eric Ross Gout de la Vigne Syrah-Viognier Blend

Only 14 clusters per vine carrying less than half the normal crop load in order to ripen with not only power but elegance of cold climate Syrah which is co-fermented with Viognier from the same vineyad. As expected the farming costs are extremely high but so is the payoff in the glass. Integrated French & American oak add a lovely smokey note to this full bodied wine. Harvest: October 24, 2009 Bottled: March 2, 2009 Cases: 290 Night harvesting provided cold fruit which was gently de-stemmed, transfered to One Ton fermenters with traditional twice-daily punch downs. The co-fermentation with 10% Viognier adds brightness to the Syrah. RP-15 Yeast brings out the rich ripe blueberry aromatics retaining the integrity of the fruit. After a 15 day fermentation the wine was pressed to a combination of American and French Oak Barrel aging.
